The Defining Issue of Our Time
To be human is to release planet-warming carbon emissions into the atmosphere. It happens when we shower, charge our phones, or yawn after a long day. Just as humans release carbon emissions, so do businesses—and UPERFECT is no exception.
In the U.S. alone, e-commerce packages travel approximately the same distance as to the moon and back… 133,000 times each day. Online shopping has transformed retail. Unfortunately, it is also impacting the environment, and not for the better. The convenient delivery of an order to your doorstep is a major contributor to climate change.
We Are on a Mission
As UPERFECT continues to grow, we have an increasing responsibility to commit additional resources to our values to maximize the positive impact of our products. At UPERFECT, we have long believed that we can be both a great company and a great corporate citizen. In fact, we believe we cannot be one without the other.
Corporate Social Responsibility is embedded in UPERFECT’s DNA because our people firmly believe in making the world a better place.
What UPERFECT Does
As of today, we are taking a stand and doing something about it.
We are becoming one of the few e-commerce brands to offset 100% of our carbon emissions from shipping. This achievement is a result of our efforts to measure our global footprint in line with international certification standards, coupled with efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.
For every one of our fantastic items that ships, we are now balancing it with a positive environmental impact thanks to our partners, EcoCart. The entire environmental impact, from bringing your favorite UPERFECT products to your door, will be completely neutralized.
This initiative is at no extra cost to our customers. It simply comes with the satisfaction of knowing that shopping at UPERFECT means making a positive impact on the planet.
So now you know, when a UPERFECT package arrives at your door, you are getting something you love, and you are taking pride in making a small step toward a big change in the world.
What?
What does it mean to offset emissions?
It means that for every carbon emission released into our atmosphere from shipping items at UPERFECT, we invest in projects that reduce carbon emissions by the same amount. It is almost like giving the planet an IOU, and then immediately paying it back.
How does it work?
Now, each time someone buys an item at UPERFECT, we will automatically purchase verified emissions reductions, more commonly known as "offsets," through our friends at EcoCart. These purchases support environmental projects, like wind and solar farms that generate clean energy, or the protection of trees that would otherwise be cut down so that they can continue to absorb carbon from the air. In addition, we also make sure that these projects do something extra special, like protecting animals or supporting underserved communities.
Why is this important?
UPERFECT has always been aware of our impact and has been actively working to reduce our carbon footprint. We believe that if we all work together towards positive change, we can make the world a cleaner, healthier place.
What do you mean by carbon neutral?
When we say we will be "carbon neutral" ("net zero" is another term you will hear), it means we will eliminate, capture, or otherwise mitigate all of the carbon emissions we create from shipping our products to your home.
Will this cost me anything?
Nope, we are footing the bill for this one! It is just another reason to shop at UPERFECT.
Just the Beginning
At UPERFECT, we are committed to slowing the impact of climate change, one order at a time
Carbon offsetting is a starting point — an immediate way to reduce our impact. While this is a moment to celebrate, we think it would be even better if we didn't emit any carbon at all. To achieve that, we are working to develop projects within our own supply chain that directly reduce our emissions.
The Power of Us
Our work is not done for another important reason. No matter how much progress we make on our own footprint, UPERFECT's footprint is actually quite small. The impact of climate change is amplified far beyond UPERFECT itself.
The only way to truly reverse the impacts of climate change is for everyone to do their part.
What You Can Do?
- Start by focusing on your home's energy efficiency. Efficiency is also the easiest way to save money. Program your thermostat. Check with your own utility and see if they offer rebates on LED light bulbs, efficient appliances, improved insulation, or other cost-effective upgrades like efficient water fixtures. Ask your utility if they offer an at-home energy audit.
- If you own a home, installing solar might make financial sense for you. In some cases, you can install solar with no upfront cost while reducing your electricity bill each month. In some areas, you can buy into a community solar farm that is not even located on your property. If solar does not work for your home, or you live in an apartment or condo, ask your utility if they have a residential green power program. Many can be opted into on simple, reasonable terms.
- Find brands with legitimate sustainability initiatives. Whether it is carbon-neutral products, a sustainable supply chain, recycled materials, or eco-friendly packaging, we should all do our best to limit the carbon footprint of the products we buy.
- Challenge yourself to drive less and bike more. Biking forces you to use your own muscle power. You get exercise while also helping the environment. In addition, making a bicycle requires much less energy than making a car. If you cannot bike to work for some reason, take public transit. It will take fewer cars off the road, which means fewer exhausts filling the air at the same time.
- Opt for reusable bottles, bags, and anything else you usually use once and then toss. If you cannot, properly recycle any plastics, papers, glass, or metals that enter your life.
If we all do our part by changing our daily habits, making sustainable swaps, supporting businesses that care about their impact on the Earth, and advocating for the future we deserve, we can make real changes in the world.
